Time for reflections on the 2024 Milazzo Film Festival Attorstudio, which closed its tenth edition with positive feedback in terms of participation and audience engagement. The event concluded with a meeting between Mayor Pippo Midili, accompanied by Councillor Antonio Nicosia, and the festival staff, who expressed their gratitude to the administration for sponsoring the event and providing the Trifiletti Theatre. During the event, several talents were awarded.

But Banfi and Bentivoglio were not the only notable talents: alongside them, Michele Riondino (Acting Award), Caterina De Angelis (A Star Is Born Award), Italian theater actor and radio host Matteo Caccia (Il Racconto, la sua voce Award), and La7 parliamentary journalist Alessandra Sardoni (Lo Scarabeo d’Argento Culture & Media Award) alternated on the stage of the Trifiletti Theatre.
THE GIFFONI FILM FESTIVAL. The presence within the Mamertina event of the space curated by the organizers of the Giffoni Film Festival was an event within the event. Many schools have already joined the initiative. There were two interactive modules, one aimed at high school students, and the other for middle school students. The Milazzo festival was attended by the staff with a didactic format that had the theme “I love My Planet.” It was not a “simple” screening with a debate but an interactive show to discuss contemporary issues and youth-related topics with students.
The Awarded Short Films
AWARDED SHORT FILMS
- POSIDONIA AWARD. “48°”, Italy, directed by Andrea di Iorio, was awarded as the best short film on environmental issues and marine protection.
- SCARABEO D’ARGENTO AWARD. “The Steak”, Iran, directed by Kiarash Dadgar Mohe, won the Scarabeo d’Argento Award for the essential and impressive power of the camera’s gaze that merges with ours, that of an ordinary passerby who, on an ordinary day, chooses to stop and observe through a window.
- POLIFEMO AWARD. Reserved for the best Sicilian director in competition, this was awarded to the short “Notti d’Estate”, Italy, directed by Ricardo Cannella, for having dealt with extraordinary sensitivity and intimacy the theme of Paolo’s struggle in dealing with the toxic need of his mission.
- DEPAGROUP AWARD. Dedicated to short films on wellbeing, health, and the elderly, it was won by the work “Il mare che muove le cose”, Italy, by Lorenzo Marinelli.
- L’OTTAVA ISOLA AWARD. Awarded by the Committee to the documentary short “Osas”, Italy, by Gabriele Gravagna, for the clear message of testimony from Osas Egbon; for his commitment to being a beacon in the fight against prostitution and human trafficking. Special mention was awarded to “S’ozzastru” Italy, by Caterina Melis for the wise and figurative use of illustration and graphic animation to serve a dramatic and touching story.
The Milazzo Film Festival was also supported by Inail Sicilia, which participated in the event with a multimedia information desk where information material produced by the Institute on safety at work in the entertainment world was available.
The Festival, in addition to the Municipality of Milazzo, had other prestigious sponsors: the Regional Department of Tourism, ARS, the Ecomuseo Chersoneso d’Oro, and the Capo Milazzo Marine Protected Area.
Greetings from Ninni Panzera
Ninni Panzera was present at the event, bringing greetings from FCS, the coordination of Sicilian festivals. THE SCHOOLS. The event was also attended by the Leonardo Da Vinci Institute and the Comprensivo Terzo, with the screening of shorts made by their students. The shorts were respectively “L’Oliveto delle Monache,” directed by Luciangela Gatto, and “Visione CAPOvolte,” directed by Giuseppe La Spada.
